Problems with recovery after face lift

I had a face lift 2 weeks ago and I'm very worried because I have a lot of
swelling araound the ears and jowl area and my face looks distorted.
So distorted that I'm ashamed to go into work because i'm scared people
will notice (I don't want anyone to know at work).
Also, I'm having problems eating things that are hard because of the pain when I use the relevant face muscles. Even when I'm not moving my face, I can feel it so tight, as if it has been pulled upwards too much.
Can anyone relate or has advice?

Everything you said here is so true and I agree with you about Dr's not telling you the real recovery process. My Dr. said there will be no pain.. and that was with neck tighening and full facelift (upper and lower eyes) and fat transfer. I kept wondering WHY he never told me that about 3 weeks... all the pain sets in because the numbness goes away. The neck lift feels like someone has a tight rope around my neck.
I also was terrified that I might have made a mistake the first week because I hardly recognized myself. My kids were terrified that I didn't like their mother. But 4 weeks later, they were so happy I looked the same person again.... but better.
I can't sleep on my back either (although I was able to the first two weeks) so I found a pillow that is solely for people who have had facelifts. Its made of memory foam and it was a savior. It had a hole in the pillow for your ear, and the memory foam is SO comfortable. It saved me. I will probably use it for the next couple of months.
I also wasn't prepared to have my ears become so numb and sensitive for so long. They feel like they were superglued on my head! Its only been 4 weeks since my surgery and I believe I wont be able to call my ears my own for 6 months. Its weird.
But like everything else... once all the pain and swelling go away.... it will all be forgotten and I will be grateful.
Would I do it again, (I"m 60 now)... probably not. This was MUCH MORE money ($17K) and recovery then I ever expected. But thats what I'm saying now... in a year... I might have another attitude. Good luck to you.

A lot happens to the area surgery was done. I read up alot prior and found swelling and pulling is part of the healing process. Remember how long it was in the process of dropping? Your ears can ring, it is the swelling, thats why cortizone worked.
Hopefully you had a certified Dr. and 1 more point. Our faces have an asymetrical shape, most not boticible until swelling. Dont worry- 6 weeks from now youll be happy.
I wish I never did this to my self.
I never knew a facelift would alter so much jaw shape and nose shape and so much fat would be taken out. Then also what is terrible is that I have choking feeling on my throat and that is why I can not do sports because I can not breath properly when my body works more...
My doctor did things I did not agree. That is very sad. I'm very sad that he was not as they described him. People please do your research and choose your doctors carefully. I thought I did. I thought I eliminated all of the worst hazards by choosing my doctor... unfortunately I chose the worst hazards and paid awful lot of money. Someone cheaper and more ethical would have cost 1/4 of the price... Stupid me.
I was so much full of joy when I found my doctor. I was imagining all the good things I say about him and his team online and thinking of the presents I could get them... I wish I knew better. They say that nothings more expensive than bitched cheap plastic surgery... Well, nothing is more expensive than botched expensive plastic surgery. It can literally cost you your life.
I thought basics of good plastic surgeon would be that they do nothing without permission. Well I was a fool to believe all the bs online... If something sounds too good to be true, it isn't... I should have remembered that...
People take care and choose wisely...

Only use baker in NYC. He is superb. I just did it two weeks ago. I'm exhausted and had a tiny tear in my lobe but the care was excellent and he uses iv sedation not general. Face looks tight but natural.
Dr Witoon in Thailand is the head of aesthetics and does a wonderful job. They call him the “Godfather” over there.
Please share how you are feeling now.
I have had virtually NO PAIN :) after face and neck. I m about to go run errands but I wanted to at least say this. I will come back to you all by this eve. I care about my fellow humans and I want to empower and support all of you. I will share much more that you will want to know. I am 2 months post-op and there are issues those of which I have and am still concerned. I will share my healing journey with all of you as I hope you will with me. More soon, L
I am 7 years post facelift surgery and have had numerous problems. I chose a board certified Plastic Surgeon that was referred to me by another doctor's wife who was his patient. I still have no feeling under my chin and problems with my parotid glands constantly swelling on both sides. Plastic Surgeon just says he doesn't know why this has happened. BTW, it was suppose to be a 4 hr. surgery that took him 8 hours. He could never explain that either. If I could go back in time I would NEVER have done it. It is not worth the pain and problems it can cause.
Hi, I’m in to exactly one month having face, neck lift. I agree with you about our expectations of 2 week as magic mark but it’s not. I still have small rump here n there.
I thought I did careful research of doctor but i’ll Wait couple of month before I make my opinion..
Hi, I'm a month out and had neck lift...lower face lift. I too had large hematomas on both sides of my cheeks. I went in at 4 days and they drained them. Again drained at day 7, again at 2 weeks, then actually had to open to drain old blood. Didn't hurt though and I was relieved to see them flatter. They have stayed flat, but now I have hard patches. They have done ultrasound on them 2 ex's so far. I've read that they can inject them steroids. Well hope this helps. Bless you!
I am there right now!! Worried I may have made a mistake
That’s great you had a painless lift. I literally suffered for 2 weeks. It felt like I had a noose around my neck and someone had also set it on fire. Not exaggerating. Severe nerve pain. Now 5 weeks post op and finally also pain free.
