I'm responding in hopes that someone will have had a similar experience. I just received news today that my gallbladder ejection is at 5% (or lower?). So, the plan is to have it removed. Months ago, I noticed I had an increased appetite and ability to consume more food. I was underweight at the time and had to gain so I suppose this was good for the time being. However, now, as I'm at a decent weight, I'm still finding I can eat a lot in one sitting (and I mean...a lot)! I read about most people with gallbladder problems having a decrease in appetite. Has anyone else endured an increase? I also make up for the excessive calories by exercising a lot, since there's no other way around it. If anyone has experienced this, did the removal help lessen your appetite? I'm also concerned since I've gained a bit of fat around my abdomen, arms, and neck. I look "skinny fat" and before this happened, I looked much more defined. Thanks for anyone's input.

I got gallstones due to rapid weight loss (which I needed) I had lost the weight and was keeping a steady weight for a few years. Then the gallstones hit and one causes a blockage rather badly. I was in hospital for a month 3 weeks on various IV anti biotics to try and bring the infection under control, until I suddendly spiked a fever and it was finally taken out (apparently 4 times the size it should be)

Post surgery I felt pretty good being pain free was great but I did have tubes around my liver and drains for a week to settle things down.Once home I noticed I have very bad pain in my stomache around my belly button but thought it must just be from the laprascope holes.

Now over a year post surgery I wasnt given any medical help with diet and I have found my body reacts poorly to fats and foods I didnt alter my diet but gained 30lb in a year I now have to try and stick to 600cal a day diet just to keep a level weight. I not gym freak or a jogger but I am active in general walk the dogs few times a day use stairs not glued to the sofa.I also was left with long herina accross my belly button a tear which must have happened during the surgery which is just getting more painful and also disrupts anything I eat, and I need to loose weight to get that fixed which is impossible.

Ive basically been left feeling like I would be better off if I could quit eating.  As dumb as it sounds I can't get any help locally with my diet needs and I can't maintian a 600 cal diet forever I have willpower but it has it's limits for a guy that already battled with a big appetite so I had to make a very difficult choice for my own future wellbeing.

I will volenteer early for a gastric band while my health is still in good shape and not risk a future of weight gain.  and the big reduction of my appetite will be just the boost to my willpower so I can manage a constant small diet long term without having to feel like a bear living on 2 berrys every day.

It's not the outcome I was expecting after Gallbladder removal and I am sure it's not for everyone but for me I need to secure a small low fat diet not just to lose a few pound now but for the rest of my life or risk all the health troubles that come with being over weight, So I have taken the early path for a prevention rather then take a risk with my future.

I had my gallbladder removed 2 weeks ago. I've lost 15 lbs. My concern is I don't have an appetite. Food just isn't appealing to me. I don't mind cause I need to lose the weight, but I wish there wad sn explanation that correlates to the surgery. My Dr said weight loss has nothing to do with the surgery. I can't find answers on the internet. I'm sure in 10-20 years they'll figure it out.

I have been reading everyone's post concerning gallbladder removal, and I am experiencing the same thing - weight right loss. No one has mentioned probiotics. Before my surgery, I was taking a product called Plexus, which incorporates a healthy amount of probiotics. The reason why many people are fat, sick, and nearly dead, is the lack of proper "gut flora". Our diets do not provide health gut bacteria, which causes weight gain, tiredness, foggy thinking, depression, diabetes, muscle aches, etc... All begins with how you are digesting and breaking down food. After surgery, I started my intake of probiotics and of course do not EVER have a problem dumping, and feel energized and just wonderful. If seems that with a bad gallblatter weight was so much more difficult to loose. I feel wonderful after having my surgery. My stomach is much more flatter and feels great. I do feel less hungery, but in the US we consume to much food anyway, so I'm glad I dont have the errge to want to eat more anyway. for those of you that may be experiencing weight gain, do your research and get your gut flor right. Look into a product call Plexus. Do your research on that as well. You will not find any negative feedback on YouTube and all products are 100% natural and safe. I did my research and I'm in a good place. I lost 18lbs in two months. It's been a week since my surgery and I have lost 5lbs. No vomiting or diarrhea. I eat normal, but I can say my gut flora is working very well. If you're a person that is always constipated, you most likely have gut flora issues and will gain more weight, feel tired all the time, have female vaginal issues, body aches and pains, feel depressed, and many other issues. So, get your gut flora right. Just do your research.

I'm booked to see a surgeon in a few weeks to get mine removed. I went for an ultrasound and they found a fair number of gallstones. That combined with past episodes of major pain esp after eating.

I've struggled with my weight pretty much since puberty, so I'm hoping to lose weight as many of you have said you did ^^ we'll find out though I guess

Just had my gallbladder out 6 days ago. I've lost 7 pounds. I'm watching my fat grams carefully. I'm changing my eating ways from before surgery. Slow and steady. Each day I feel better. Not having bowel issues because I'm watching the fat intake and eating small meals spread throughout the day.

What you are experiencing is not normal! Possibly one of the clamps they close the end up with slipped off? My doctor told me that if i had any of the symptoms you mentioned above that i would need to come back in right away! Get a second opinion!!!!

I have had many issues in the past year. Last year my appendix ruptured and encapsulated itself. I didn't have the typical symptoms. I eventually went to the ER after the consulting nurse suggested I may have appendicitis. My appendix was so inflamed the surgeon placed a drain in my appendix to drain the abcessed appendix. I was hospitalized for 4 days, pumped with high powered antibiotics. Upon discharge they said that if I had any pain I should go back to the ER. 3 days later I had pain in what I though was my lungs. I returned to the ER to only be told they knew I didn't have gallstones since they did a CT scan. I met with my surgeon who ordered an ultrasound. The ultrasound revealed a polyp in my gallbladder. The said I should monitor it for the next 2 years. I had my appendix removed 2 months later. The surgeon wanted to wait 3 months, he stated I would have less complications but I was concerned about taking pain meds for that long...so I pushed for it to come out sooner. 2 weeks after my appendectomy I developed another abscess. This time in my bowels. I took another course of strong antibiotics and was scheduled for another drain. When they tried to put the drain in they couldn't tap anything so the drain did not stay (wheew.) A year after my appendectomy I went back to my PCP and she ordered another ultrasound on my gallbladder. This time there were 2 polyps. I started becoming symptomatic, I had pain, nausea and gas problems. The surgeon ordered a Hida Scan which said my gallbladder was functioning properly, but I had pain during the 2 phase of the 1 1/2 test. During which time lost 10 lbs without trying. I was scheduled for my gallbladder to be removed. I had no problem after procedure. I was up and walking around the day of my surgery. The next day is when the pain set in. I stayed in bed for about a week (minus 2 nights of having to get out of the house due to cabin fever.) I am not the type of person to just lay around in bed; however, during this time I needed to rest, I was so tired...I ate but still loss weight. 10 days after the surgery I went back to work. The first thing my boss said was that I'd loss weight. I finally looked at myself in the mirror & it was true....I have loss weight. I'm not sure how much I've lost since the surgery, but my pants say I've lost weight. I eat small meals. I do have to fight the nausea. I've noticed if I eat/drink things that are acidic I have problems....I usually end up throwing everything up. I hope to continue to lose weight because I have certainly gained weight in the past year. I believe I've gained 20 lbs in a year since my appendectomy. I was relieved to hear that there are people who have lost weight since they've removed their gallbladder since everyone that I know has gained weight.
