My situation is parallel to yours, plus fibromyalgia. How long was your healing time and the ability to eat soft foods?

The surgeon told me that often after surgery, the stress on your body accelerates weight loss.

Well all I can say is I hope it works out that way for me, because the weight gain was brought on by medication, so I hope it hasn't messed up my own body chemistry to much.

Thank You for your input.

I am glad to have found this as I was getting curious. I had my GB removed on 6th march. Since then I have lost around 5kg every 2 weeks.

I have not changed anything. No more exercise, still eating normally. No toilet issues. it is just as though my body is delighted not to have the GB and is now functioning properly.

I hope it continues!

Dear LellyM;

So losing the weight is a good thing for you then? If so then I'm looking forward to getting my Gallbladder taken out, because this weight that I did gain has made me so depressed, I could use an up lift in my life right now. Who knows may-be my hair will start to grow back in. You see last summer there was so much stress in my life, that my hair fell out in September (that was the second time in a three year period) but this time it's taking way to long to grow back in, it's only about 2 1/2 inches long now, before it fell out it was half way down my back. I miss my long hair :^( I'll be so glad when it finally grows back in.

Linda,

for me, yes it was a good thing. I was very overweight but since the op I have gone down 2 dress sizes and now I am close to needed another size smaller.

I think it is easy for people to underestimate the stress of gallstones. Never knowing when you are going to be bent over in agony. I travel a lot for work and had a bad attack when i was 100s of miles from home. The people I was visiting ended up driving me to the local hospital (not a very professional image!).

I also used to spend a lot of time in Asia and wa sterrified I would have a bad attack over there. Nothing to do with the hospitals mind, they are generally very good. More the fact of being so ill away from my nearest and dearest. So I hope that when you have your GB removed things start to run a little easier.

On another plus side, my chronic fatigue and depression have also cleared up!

For me, a miracle operation!!!

Best of luck,

Lel xx

Dear Lel;

Thank you so very much for the encouraging news about not only the weight loss but the depression & fatigue clearing up, because I also suffer from both of those as well. My Husband will be elated to hear the news...lol. Having a depressed & chronically fatigued wife can be stressful on him as well, that could possibly be the reason for all of his weight loss as well (I Hope). I worry about his health & he worries about mine, boy are we ever a pair...lol. After 22 years of Marriage we still care about & for each-other, huh, what are the odds these days...lol.

Again Thank You very very much for the encouraging news, I can now look forward to having my Gallbladder removed with so much stress & fear, we can really use a miracle right now too.

Sincerely;

how much did you weigh to begin with?

Linda,

you are most welcome. This reflects the main reason i joined here. Before the op like many people I consulted "Dr Google" and began to get a bit nervous due to all of the scary stories. Then a friend reminded me that geenrally only people who have had problems bother to post anything - so i decided to write about the positive stuff.

Don't worry about the op at all. Assuming you have a keyhole (which is the majority of cases), you could be home the same day 9if you get an early scheduled time) or at the very worst an overnight in hospital. When you wake up the pain in yr stomach really isn't as bad as you think ti will be. i felt more "tense and winded" than sore. My abdomen was fairly rigid I guess due to the gas left in there and i was covered in adhesive dressings. They gave me morphine and codeine (coz morphine doesn't work for me) and that was fine. I dozed for 12 hours. Then the next day a nurse changed all of the dressings and i was allowed to go to the bathroom and have a shower. That made a huge difference. When I first got out of bed I felt  as though I needed to walk around bent over but forced myself upright. It was a bit sore but not so bad!

Within 2 days I was off all pain meds and just getting on with the process of recovery. Dressings off after 4 days, stitches out after a week. I was off work for 2 weeks. After 1 week I was almost back to normal but still couldn't lift anything heavy. For the first few weeks back at work I didn't carry my laptop home due to the weight. On the 1 occasion i tried it i could feel my stomach pulling.

Now, 6 weeks post surgery I feel amazing. I saw my surgeon yesterday and he confirmed that i had a gallbladder packed with stones and it was inflamed. He also said I could have been carrying a low grade infection around for years which was why i felt so lousy and tired. Now the infection is gone (no anti-b's needed) I am getting energy back.

So best of luck with yr op. i hope you have as good a time of it as i did.

Let us know eh?

Hello, I had my gall-bladder removed on 4/26/2012. For about 4 months prior I had what I thought was a stomach bug that wouldn't go away and was very painful. After about the 4th episode, I thought there must be something wrong with me. A nurse friend said it's probably your gall-bladder, so I drive straight to the ER, and they took me in, and operated about a day later. They tried to go in laproscopically, but ended up cutting me open. That was the worse part of the whole ordeal. I was in the hospital for a total of 7 days because of the big incision then off work one more week. They said I healed wonderfully though. I am 37. I am hoping I might be one of the lucky ones who might lose a little weight from this. People tell me I look like I lost weight. The scale says I'm only down about 5, but I feel good. Also, I haven't been careful at all about what I've ate. Since I felt bad for so long, then was in the hospital and all that, I've kind of been eating all whatever, as if to make up for that month or two. And I am still down a few pounds. Now that it is summer, I plan on eating healthier and getting back to the gym, so I'm optimistic about reading all these other people who have lost weight that maybe this will end up good for me in a small way. Btw, I am overweight, 5-8, around 230 lbs, right now.
