Audible noise when moving my eyes

This doesn't happen always, but between 5-10 times a week I will hear (or appear to hear) a noise which vaguely sounds like someone quickly ripping a piece of paper or cloth when I move my eyes from one point to another (left to right, up to down, etc). I guess I'm just trying to figure out is this really happening, or am I suffering from some type of auditory hallucination?
There doesn't seem to be any single set of circumstances it occurs in.
Has anyone heard of anything like this?

Anytime I have a whooshing or buzzing “sound” when moving my eyeballs, my sinuses are under pressure. I woke up this morning to puffy eyes and that full face feeling, tonight I have the weird sounds when I hold everything still but my eyes.

Thank you for writing this. I have just weaned off of Zoloft recently over the course of a month or so, and within the last few days I have noticed the swishing sound/feeling upon moving my eyes, or blinking, or moving my head. It is all intermittent, it does it whenever it wants with no rhyme or reason. Rather unpleasent. But after reading your post I have hope that it will go away, and is cause by stopping an antidepressant

Hello just read your post, did you ever come to an explanation for these symptoms I have the same. Stay safe
I’m so relieved that I’m not alone. I’m afraid to try to explain this to anyone for fear of being laughed at. If anyone finds resolutions, please share!
I literally just typed in to google, "light saber sound when moving my eyes" and got here. I have the exact same situation as a few people have remarked. Rice in a paper cup is another good way to describe it. I wonder if it could possibly be due to eye strain? Staring at a computer screen all day or through an optic of some sort? Not really sure what the solution is but I would like to resolve or combat it as soon as possible.
I recently had covid and then received a booster shot 1 month after. Since, I have had tinnitus and vertigo and when I move my eyes I can hear what I liken to your description but my sound I describe as electric buzzing when I move my eyes side to side or down. I am so dizzy and the noise in my head is scary!!
I discontinued Prozac and have also experienced a swooshing feeling in my head when moving my eyes to the right while my head is still. I discontinued Prozac 6 weeks ago and I still have this swooshing. Your post is encouraging to me though, and I’m hoping mine will also disappear. Thanks for your encouraging post.
i was waiting to read an apt description for what i experience! I notice its more pronounced when I'm looking up and shift my eyes to the right or left.
Yes, this!
Well... I experience it daily (the brain zaps - you can google that phase), but fevers make it much worse. I also found that if I'm in the dark, the problem is much less intense... but if I'm in a bright room, it's very easy to reproduce.
I initially started feeling these "brain zaps" right after I quite Prozac 25 years ago - which I didn't take for long (2-3 months).
Sometimes when I'm falling asleep, it can happen many times, and very rapidly (every second for up to 10 seconds - like I'm being electrocuted). Maybe because of REM? No idea. It feels terrible, but I'm in a dream-like state so it's really hard to fully describe.
I've also experienced extremely intense sounds at the moment of falling asleep. This is a recurring thing, and it seems to either happen on particular day, or not at all. It starts quietly, then gets louder as I fall asleep... on a few occasions I've tried to "tough it out" but it gets SOOOO intense that I have to wake myself up. Again, this is happening as I'm falling asleep, so it's hard to describe in detail.
To top it off, I started experiencing tinnitus when this started. My left ear has a searing high pitch that's pretty constant, and the other is not as intense, but sometimes also with a low pitched, random set of pitches that alternate.
The loud sounds right when falling asleep (probably the worse symptom of them all) came after I was prescribed Adderall and another anti-anxiety medication (Wellbutrin) - honestly, I've never been the same since.
Maybe it's my age (48) - cheers to getting old!?
I too have episodes of being able to hear my eyes move, it sounds like electrical swishing sounds.. I have had several severe concussions in my youth and just thought that was what was causing it... glad to hear I am not alone in this conundrum.
Hi all,
I found these posts while googling this symptom of hearing my eyes move along with dizziness. I stopped Lexapro exactly two weeks again and I started having this symptom two days after my last dose. Every time I move my eyes left to right I hear the sound and I get dizzy with a mild head rush sensation. Im getting nervous since it’s been two weeks and it’s not going away. The thought of dealing with this for a long time makes me really upset. Has it resolved for anybody else here? I’m guessing it has for the people that don’t post here anymore, but I’m still really worried.
Hi, Did your symptoms disappear now that more time has passed by? I have this sensation due to stopping Lexapro two weeks ago and I’m getting worried because it’s not going away.
I think this might be normal. When I wake from a nap if is move my eyes left and right quickly moSt times I hear or feel that light saber type whooshing sound. I just looked this forum up to see if it happens to others. I think you are somehow hearing or feeling the impulses that are being sent to the eye muscles. There must be some neurological sensitivity there while you are in the transitory wake state. For me it never occurs unless I just work up from either a short nap or, I think, when I wake up in general. Of course only if I move the eyes. If this happens to someone all the time or all day i would suppose something is seriously wrong.
Thank goodness someone has the light saber sound! I have been trying to explain it and just got weird looks. When this happens to me, which has been more frequently, i get extremly light headed and nausious. When i move eyes left to right is worse than up and down. Very annoying and sometimes hurts as well as scary when driving
My reply:
I am having the same problem and can't find help. It is getting so bad because my eyes moving makes my ears make loud saber sounds. I already have Menier's Disease which includes tinnitus for 15 years, so with the vertigo Meniers also causes plus this eye movement/ear swooping sound noise, I'm going crazy! The neurologist I went to had no idea what I was describing! I need help!
