I just discovered your forum and I'm glad I did.  I am a 61 year old male.  My post nasal drip and horrible phlegm started over 3 years ago when I had surgery on my throat that removed my uvula, "tightened" my palate, removed tonsils and aninoids and fixed a deviated septum.

I healed quickly from the surgery  but   then the post nasal drip started .   I  had/have never had sinus trouble in my life.  I am convinced the problem is related to the uvual removal.

THE DOCTORS ALL SAY REFLUX OF THE LARYNX.     I just don't get it.

I have tried every OTC antihistamine and RX ones too, but nothing seems to work.

I take Prilosec 40 mg. in the a.m.  and also  I take allegra 180 in a.m.   No particularly good result.

Musonex I take, but I don't think I can drink enough water (gallons?) to clear the mucus.

______________

HOWEVER,  I stumbled upon this forum while researching hydrogen peroxide (with baking soda) as a way of whitening my teeth.

I  just gargled for the first time with peroxide and H2O.   I hope it helps.

I welcome any suggestions from you folks.....obviously you have been in dire straits yourselves.

I have been dealing with this problem like everyone else. It can really take over your life! It is a condition that needs some serious research. I have been trying to figure out how to live with this as its been 4 years now. Here are some things that can help me go for a couple of days with no problems and when I do have problems they are mild. The important thing is dont skip a day as it can send you back to hair pulling annoyance again. If you do miss a day no worries just try to keep it up. I think there is a relationship to the stomach, but not to do with reflux of acid. First I cleared out my guts. I used a bitters herbal tea for a few nights in a row. Just ask at health shop for something to help flush you out. Once I had really emptied myself I then started taking both pre and probiotics with slippery elm. I bought it as a mixed powder with added aloe vera  called 'bowel biotics plus' by lifestream, look it up as it explains whats in it and what it can do. It does not have to be this brand just make sure you have the pre/pro biotics for digesting food quickly and the slippery elm soothes the esophagus and leaves a layer over it to stop it becoming raw. Another thing I have done is to cut out yeast. I now make my own soda bread and this has been great BUT I have also completely cut out alcohol. I still use a bit of soy sauce for flavorings but am on the look out for a yeast free version. Basically if its fermented stay away. I have also cut down on cheese. I buy only raw cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano that is made in Italy as they are allowed to use raw milk which still has the enzymes that help to digest the cheese properly. Basically your looking for any raw cheeses if you must have cheese like me! So far have been trying A2 milk and things are look good there but had some standard off the shelf cheddar the other day and not so good an outcome.  The other thing I have done is to do some basic yoga. Look up 'yoga for digestion' on youtube there are some helpful postures that all but a few can do. I do just three and practice breathing to stay calm. I noticed that the more worked up I get about the mucus the worse the symptoms (I do not mean that the symptoms are in my imagination just that stress makes it worse). This is no cure, but can help manage it. I'll add new things as I figure them out. It would be great if me could all get together and start a kickstarter or something to get some researchers to look into this problem of ours.

Patty, I'm a 51 yr. old female who has had post nasal drip and a swollen lymph node for over a yr.. I have been to 5 ENTs and 4 allergist and also went to Mayo clinic April 2013 and still no answers. I recently did sleep study for sleep apnea. I do have trouble sleeping but its because of congestion and pain in lymph node and feels like something liquid is coming out of my left year at night. Although nothing comes out feels moist. Please let me know if you find any answers. I will keep you informed as well Best wishes. Kim

I too have this same problem. I'm 32 and I've had this since I was meth addict. I never had this problem until I took my first hit of meth. I have been sober now since 2006 and still the mucous is there. It's very clear, thick, and sticks to the wall of my throat. I have to pull it down my sinus with the back of my tongue and it comes out in a large ball. I'm truly scared. I know your pain and I have no answer for you or I. It's embarrassing and frustrating. Please let me know if you get answers and I'll do the same.

I understand how you feel. I myself have been suffering with constant throat mucus for over a year now and it wont go away. This developed when I was 8 weeks into my pregnancy amd has not went away. My son is 8 months now and I still have this constant yellow thick phlegm everyday. It disrupts my life - i constantly have to clear my throat, go to a secret location at work to hack it up and half the time I cant get it up. It is very annoying. I feel like my nose is stuffy and runny but ENT said nothing wrong with nose. I saw my PCP who gave me prednisone and amoxicillin thinking it may be an infection. It helped for a few days then it came back. I have had chest and sinus x-rays. the sinus xray showed i have a mild deviated septum. idk what else to do. it happens when i wake up, just sitting on couch, after i eat, before bed..i cant take it anymore. it really is starting to take over my life. i am miserable. my next step is an endoscopy which they prob will say same thing they said to you. i take dexilant because ent thinks it is some sort of reflux. it dont help! I am at my wits end and cry about it. i just want it to go away. i never had anything like this in my life ever!!!

my name is Ahmad and i am 37 years old. I visited different ENT's, got CTSCAN and even checked myself with dozen chest doctors. I am suffering from mucous problem since last 4 years, I found a solution for the problem, use a drug called Montor LC that contains montelukast sodium abd Levocitrizine Dihidrochloride tablets. Smoking , dust is man cause for it..

I have experienced the same problem, its worse in the night and morning after waking up . I have to hack it up so many times in the night and in the morning when brushing. It gets worse after I travel for so many hours in the air. Sometimes I try to hack it out, but nothing comes out. I take so many liters of water during the day nothing worked out. Mine is only worse at night. I feel very uncomfortable to spend night somewhere away from my home because of the morning rituals. We are many out there with no answers,

Going on 13 years now with this throat problem.  Mine started after going through a series of allergy shots.  I was on a rapid protocol which meant more shots in less time over a period of 4 months.  Of course, every doctor denies any possible linkage of allergy shots to the problem.  Absolutely miserable!

Have been looking into this. I think you all have tonsil stones. It's a mixture of mucous, dead white blood cells and food. If you've had throat infections and have sinus and allergy problems then the problems coalesce in the back of your throat. Your lymph system has been compromised because of the pressures put on it by over use. Have a look at the back of your throat after you've watched some videos on it. Doctors don't really know that much about it or care about it because it's no life threatening. There are a range of home made and commercial solutions that can help. Good luck everyone

I too have been suffering from similar issues. Nearing wits end and desperate for answers, I took to Google and stumbled across this thread. I have been seeing multiple doctors (ENT, GI, Pulmonary, etc.) with similar results to what has been expressed above... I was told by different doctors that I may have Allergies, Asthma, Chronic Sinusitis, Acid Reflux, or a mix of all of the above. After reading this post, I did a lot of research and I firmly believe that I may indeed be facing an overgrowth of Candida. I will be making drastic changes to my diet and plan to ask my GI doctor to perform testing to determine if this indeed is the problem. I cannot thank you enough for giving me hope...

I have read alot of these posts regarding throat mucus and coughs and I too have experienced the same things for over 4 yrs now- gone to every specialist my doctor can find- went thru every test imaginable- broke my pocketbook in the meantime-I am on meds just to be able to breathe it gets so bad- but I have come to a conclusion that the problems stem from the polluted air we are forced to have to breathe- my systems started about 3 months after I had new insulation blown into my attic but tests show its not a allergic reaction to that particular substance- but something is causing the problems- the doctors just cant pinpoint "what" and just prescribe another pill or spray or inhaler or nebulizer- my point is- with so many people having the same symptoms and problems- the only common denominator is "the air we breathe"-
