What an amazing forum.  As I write this, I have both vaginal and rectal itching.  I first started to get vaginal itching at age 17.  I became sexually active at age 20.   At that time, the itching came every six months.  Persistently, as the years went on, the itching became more frequent.  I am now 35 years old.  At times I was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis, sometimes with yeast infection, and other times with nothing.  Most recently I was diagnosed with trichomoniasis, an STD that is a single celled organism, a protozoa that exists only in the human body and that could cause infertility.  I read when a couple goes to a fertility clinic, the first thing tested is this disease.  I took antibiotics (Metronidazole) and felt relief for only a few days, then the itching came back yesterday.  I got a swab done last week, and my doctor told me nothing was found.  I see that I am lucky that I have no pain during urination.  I am amazed how individualized these symptoms can be.  My treatment continues with a bacterial suppository and taking bacterial pills in order to restore healthy bacteria to my system.  Thanks to all for sharing.  I hope this will work eventually.

I've had this for 2 months.  I get relief by putting witch hazel on area then apply hydrocortisol cream.  It really helps me.

I am going through menopause and do suffer with the same horrifying, painful, itchy symptoms. When this occurs I use neosporin where it burns and a cortisone cream sometimes even twice at night. Do your best not to scratch or rub this will prolong your suffering. What I have found to be very valuable is to use virgin coconut oil; organic preferably. I use at least twice a day. This has stopped my suffering although it does return if I am stressed and neglected using the coconut oil. I wear only 100 percent cotton underwear. I have to wear nylons for work but I cut the crotch out seems to work fabulously. There have been times I apply the coconut oil as much as 6 times a day until it clears up. It is cool and wonderfully helpful  instantly :) I hope you feel better and get your life back fast!

I recently was suffering from the same thing. Your gyno doesn't know what it is because it's dermatology not gynocology. STOP using soap on your vag. STOP wearing thong underwear. Soak in a baking soda bath...1 cup to a tub for instant relief. After your bath coat your vulva with Vaseline. 7 out of 10 women suffering with itching, burning and small cuts have this issue. Look up vulva dermititis. My life has gotten increasingly better. No more pain, itching, burning, tearing just a normal vagina.

I've been having very similar issues ever since taking antibiotics four or five months ago.  It started after I was diagnosed with a UTI and given ten days of Cipro.  I started to experience horrible stinging and burning all throughout my pelvic region then noticed a horrible red rash on my vulva.  I also took another ten days of Macrobid after that which finally got rid of my UTI.  About a month later I seemed to have developed a yeast infection and I treated it.  Came back next month after my period and was diagnosed as such by a gynecologist though no test was done.  He just said it looked like one.  Treated it again and felt better.  All throughout this my vulva has been red and irritated looking even when I wasn't experiencing any other symptoms of a yeast infection.  Right now it actually looks pretty normal, the rash and redness seem to have slowly gone down over the months and I still experience this itching on and off on the outside of my vulva, not inside, and soreness, like a dull ache.   I also had horrible cramping and bloating every month after my period since taking the Cipro.  It was much worse at the beginning but seems to lessen every month.  I wonder if the antibiotics killed all the bacteria, especially since Cipro is so strong and I seem to have had such a horrible reaction to it.  While I was taking it I also noticed that my vagina was completely devoid of any type of discharge or odor which was very strange.  I too always feel better when I'm menstruating.  I've read bacteria is supposed to replenish itself pretty quickly after antibiotics but then have also read other studies suggest it can be permanently depleted.  All I know is I'm always stressed over this, rarely have sex anymore and this thing completely ruined my dream European vacation.  I'm lucky to have a very patient boyfriend at least.

Have any of you been tested for HSV-2? Not trying to scare y'all, but I've had similar issues and I'm worried that's what it is.

Well I posted as a guest about a week ago and just wanted to say that my vaginal culture came back as bacterial vaginosis and no yeast at all.  I'm pretty surprised as I've had bv before and the symptoms were totally different.  I've had no smell which is typical with bv and my discharge is thick white but tests confirmed it so I guess going on symptoms alone really is hard to do... I hope these antibiotics finally fix me...

Sam, I haven't been tested HSV-2 or 1 and was considering that as well.  For now I'm going to hope these antibiotics work.  People kind of look to herpes as a worst case scenario when things go wrong down there but there are so many different possible causes so try to worry too much and see a doctor.  Self diagnosing is really hard...

Have your Dr. Prescribe the following rx: lexapro, topamax, and methadone. I went to a pain management dr. after suffering for a year and he give me these three meds. Within a few days, all the burning was gone and most of my other lessened. After all these years, I am still on low doses of these meds and feel wonderful knowing I have my life back.

Please, all of you women who are suffering from this horrible condition, listen to my advice.I, too, have this so I know what you are going through. I finally went to a PAIN MANAGEMENT DR. who hit the nail on the head with the following 3 meds.: Lexapro, Topamax, and Methadone. Within a couple off days, all of the burning was gone and my other symptoms were also starting to lessen. I am still taking lower doses of these meds 6 years later and doing great. I wish all of you the very best as no one can understand what you are going through unless they have experienced it. If I can be of help, contact me.
