I found out myself that it was simply the skin that hot gotten unhealthy, and despite daily showers, it only worsened to the point where they were so itchy and red it just looked like something very serious.
I fixed it by rubbing on some thick and fatty unperfumed cream in the morning after shower, and before I went to bed.
I also added vitamin pills to my diet, AND fishpills with omega three, which helps the skin get healthy from within.
Good luck!
This winter I had a really bad case of the itchy red scrotum and there was an intensely itchy spot near the base of the penis and the redness in the scrotum seemed to be coming from there. Thanks to my job situation I don't have health insurance and like most people here the doctors have been of no help anyway. So I turned to the internet.
One thing I read is that it could be a contact dermatitis from soap or something. And I read that a fungal infection usually stinks and if doesn't smell bad it's probably not a fungus. And like most of you, I was washing it like crazy. So I quit using soap there for few weeks. And it seemed to get a bit better and to my surprise it did not stink down there at all.
But the scrotum still would get irritated at times and never quite normal. So I tried 1% hydrocortisone and that helped tremendously. There was just the small red area at the base of the penis and as long as I used the hydrocortisone I had relief. I had heard warnings that long term use of hydrocortisone can cause trouble, but I was so happy to get rid of the itchy scrotum syndrome. After using the hydrocortisone for about 6 weeks my scrotum was bleeding in one spot after a shower. And I noticed some tiny red dots on the scrotum. So I did some research on using hydrocortisone on the scrotum and realized this is a very bad thing that must be discontinued immediately.
I read on net forums that some people recommended using diaper rash zinc oxide ointment. I bought some CVS medicated ointment for diaper rash with 12.8% zinc oxide (compare to Triple Paste) and this seemed to work just as well as the hydrocortisone! I have used it for a few weeks now it relieves the itching and redness in the scrotum. It seemed it itch only after a warm shower and the small red area at the base of the penis was barely visible.
I thought everything was well under control until last week. I noticed the red area at the base of the penis was sort of turning white and then pealed a bit. A few days later I saw 3 small white bumps. Herpes!
To make the long story shorter, I believe I have had very mild symptoms of herpes since I was about 20 (I'm 52 now). I read that many people who are infected with herpes have little or no symptoms from it. One symptom I've had and never heard of before was herpes outbreak on the buttocks. For past 10 years I have had what I thought was a few pimples on the butt cheeks. It was never very bad, like less than 10 pimples. This year I had 2. But it was worse the first couple of times. I happened to see a doctor once when I had the pimples and the doctor said it looked like a very mild case of shingles and since it wasn't uncomfortable nothing needs to be done about it.
I have noticed the pimples and the buttocks and itchy scrotum always seem to occur during the middle of winter. I'm talking Minnesota winter here and it is very cold here in the winter. And this has been a very nasty, long and cold winter here in Minnesnowta.
Now here's the weird thing. Now that the herpes has emerged from that red area everything has gotten much better! It's my theory that the herpes irritates the nerves. And now that herpes has found its way out it goes into remission and everything goes back to normal.
And another thing I read: Condoms don't always protect you from herpes. There's still plenty of skin to skin contact during sex. And herpes often erupts from the place where it first infected you. I'm my case that would be right where the condom can't cover. And the herpes is very mild in my case, nothing like nasty pictures you might see and completely painless. Except for the itchy red scrotum.
I think that any sort of moisturizing cream was calming my skin and that clotrimazole was not necessary, it was really the lotion in it. The zinc diaper rash cream is really thick stuff and only needs to applied once a day. Never use a steroid cream unless prescribed by a doctor. And be skeptical of your doctor!
I'm not happy to know I've had herpes all along. But I'm happy to know what has been going on with me and that I am not crazy.
cuHey guy
I hd th found the cream on this a year or so ago. You can order a cream called SOMOXAL on the internet, just look it up
Everyone. . . Possible new solution that seems to be working wonders:
First and foremost thanks for all the honest commentary, I have had severe itching almost every day for about 5 years. I'm now 24. Just this week I had basically given up hope thinking it was something that was going to follow me around forever.
Anyway, long story short I was bumping around a local Rite Aid (in a random area not QUITE where I usually would end up for toiletries) and I decided to check out the anti-fungal section (I do this from time to time, I was actually originally looking for antibacterial body wash but they didn't have any). I guess I've had an inkling that my itching was yeast/bacteria/fungus of some kind in the back of my mind. I've tried tinactin, lamasil, and all the basic anti fungal creams and nothing has helped.
So this fateful day, 3 days ago, I stumbled across an "antifungal" body powder that "cures most jock itch." I figured what the heck, and that it couldn't possibly hurt. . . I've used gold bond and gold bond triple medicated in the past, it provides temporary relief at best. . .
This stuff is AMAZING. It gives you the immediate relief of the powder, and there is no itchy moisture build up throughout the day. Now even when I wake up in the morning I feel great! My junk is hanging better than ever, everything is spot on DRY (even after the gym today) and I think that this stuff might really be the answer for me.
Without further delay: the product is called "Zeasorb-AF" and is made by Stiefel. I'm sure there are other variants out there, but this stuff works WONDERS. It is 2% Miconazole Nitrate (antifungal active) and I have not seen that particular ingredient in ANY of the other creams/sprays that I've tried (most of them are using butenefine hydrochloride or a similar variant).
Anyways, look the stuff up. . . Its available through amazon, CVS, and Walgreens online for about $8-9 a small bottle, which is what I paid. . . You only need to use a very small amount, and the relief is immediate and long lasting . . . It says that it cures within 2 weeks. . . I will happily use it for 2 weeks and then keep it with me just in case it starts to come back. I'm on day 4 right now, about to go to bed. . . twice a day keeps the itching and discomfort completely away!
I really hope that some of you guys try this out, and whoever is reading this PLEASE comment on whether or not it works for you. I wish you all the best of luck. . . DEFINITELY give it a shot I know how horribly annoying this condition is. . . I've seen 4 urologists and they've all told me I'm completely fine. . .
I hope that helps!
Ok, Now I got this thing again. I had it before when i was like 17, but now i'm 22 got it again. I had it when i travel to south asia, and buy medicine from phormacy and it get that shinny balls out right the way. But now I'm stuck here with no hope.
That things started like yesterday and just itch the hell out of me tonight. I can't sleep and starting to search internet for help. read through most of the post found some useful info. I'll keep my balls clean and update latter. Wish of the best lucks to my balls, and thanks to all of guys out there who post on this blog!
Quote: Ok guy, I went to Dr. in Kaiser He said it's small fungai infection. he issued me some medicine which help me a lot. After one night of used now my sretum almost soft back and not itchy as hell now. Thanks God and my Dr. !!!! I'll tell you everything I did to help me throught these Painful 3 days:
Things you should not do:
1. do not scratch the hell of out it, the more you scratch the more you can't stop. I know i feels good, it made me want to come but do not scatch it. because u will scratch the skin and it will start to leak, then it take longer time to heal.
2. dont' eat meat or any fry stuff. eat vegetable or healthy foods.
Things that you should do:
1. go to wallsgreens or safeway get some povidone iodine, wash infect area twice a aday. I do it norming and after noon or after popoo.
2. My Doctor issued me clotrimazole 1% IN HC 2.5% Creamt use it once aday, but i used it everytime it itch. he also issued me some powder but when i used it it's start to itch again so i didn't use it.
3. At shower I wash it good with water mixed with Povidone Iodine. After shower I dry it with my small Fan.
4. I applied the Clotrimazole on my scretum and use my fan to cool it down cus it's itch the hell out of me when i touch it. so I cool it off everytime it itch.
5. I also buy Vitamin E and fish Oil from Kaiser Pharmacy. eat Vitamine E twice a day and once for fish oil, cus that softgels hella big, plus you dont' need that many omga 3 anyway.
6. At night it's wackes me many time cus it's so itchy. God gave me a leason to take shower and a reasy not to be lazy.
Guy just keep that things dry, i use my small fan and just blow it all night. after two nights and now it's dry and i notice most of my scretum are soft back.
I got this because i side like 10 hours everyday, I'm an IT so siding is a needed, but i'm lazy taking shower, so from now on I'll take shower everyday.
I'll also order a better chair, my chair kinda old and it's that kind which used cloth, but you can get somethign like nets the thing that your butt can breath. office max has it for about $160. trust me the month worth to pay for.
Finally, all brother out there if you get sth like this please keep it clean and watch with Povidone Iodine and use the cream which kill fungai. I learn my leason and from now on I'll keep it clean. Hope this would help.
****The following might be helpful to someone****
I had sever itching which started around the scrotum, especially at night - I cleaned the area with Tea Tree Oil - This did not help..
The itching further developed to both the inner thighs (near scrotum), accompanied by rash...
* GP prescribed 'Trimovate Cream' - Symtoms seem to have improved, however, after a week or so; considerable itching & rash in both inner thighs and in groin area only had returned
* GP prescribed ‘Dermovate NN Cream’ – Not much improvement.
* GP then prescribed ‘Daktacort Cream’ – No improvement.
* GP then prescribed ‘Lamasil Cream’ and suggested to wash effected area with ‘Selsun Shampoo’ - 2 days later, both inner thighs and groin area were extremely red, intense burning with severe rash. - later found out this was due to the Selsun Shampoo
* GP then prescribed back to ‘Trimovate Cream’ – burning & rash had subsided – itching continued.
After further use of creams as prescribed by my GP, I was really fed up of being used as an experiment, I finally got a refereal to see a very good Dermatologist at a Private Hopsital.
After exmaination, I had 'Tinea Cruris' which developed now into 'Tinea Incognito'. This was primarily due to the GP failing to recognise the condition as 'Tinea Cruris'. Thus, the GP had prescribed creams that contained Steroids! This was a Mistake!
Lamisil Cream or Canesten Clotrimazole Cream (without Steroids) on their own could have been enough to get rid of the 'Tinea Cruris'.
However, as my rash had now spread, the Dermatologist had prescribed 'Terbinafine' Tables - 4 Week Course.
I am now completly itch/rash free! and completely cured...
Best of Luck to All....
HI everyone. I have alot of the same symptoms as you guys.
First of, I was diagnosed with herpes (not sure which) in april 2011. Then I ended up having sex with a girl I know that I knew also have herpes.
Then after a few days I started getting a severe itch in my pubic area. I got tiny small red bumps where my hair was, and it got a small white pimple on top of it. After like 1,5 week of severe pain, I went to the doctor and got Diclocil (I think?), it was some kind of antibiotics. Anyways I think it helped a little but not enough, since I still had the pimpels. I went to another doctor who now also gave me an antibiotic- cream, (Fucidin).
Both of the doctors taught I had folliculitis, which I also think it was. But then after or during the antibiotic- cures, I started to feel a severe itch in my pubic area, also in my groin and on my inner thighs. There are no visible sign. I am not sure what is going on.
I think it might be some fungal since antibiotics tend to disturb the natural flora, so now I will try out lamisil as well. The itch had been pretty annoying, but its not like I have to scratch it. Its more like its under my skin or something..
I dont know how to relate it to the herpes, does anyone else know? I have read that herpes can cause follicultitis, but im not sure. Anyways, I hope it goes away. I have only had two herpes outbreaks, and I havent seen it after..
Anyways, good luck to you and me. Hope we all get a fix for this
