I've just got my cast off yesterday and I am horrified. My nose looks way too short and upturned and my columella is showing a lot. My nostrils are showing from both the front and the side views and my overall nose looks larger.
Before surgery I had a long and narrow nose which I really liked from the front. I was only concerned by its side view : I wanted to get rid of a little hump and to deproject the tip.
I am so depressed, I feel I have made the worst mistake of my life. I was quite good looking before surgery but now I cannot even look at myself in a mirror. I have to go back to school next week but for the moment I don't want anybody to see my nose like this. My mom tries to reassure me but I know she's also worried.
I know I am still swollen, my tip and columella feel very hard when I touch them but I have very little hope that my nose will look good in the end.
You said you felt like miss piggy too. Was the tip of your nose too upturned? Did it drop significantly? How long were you stuck with this pig nose? Did it take 7 weeks for your nose to look good?

The swelling between the eyes is totally normal especially if your surgeon broke your bones to refine your bridge. Don't worry it will go down and the bridge will look slimmer. Swelling can also make the bridge appear higher. For my part it looked like I still had a bump during the first weeks as it was swollen and the skin hadn't sticked to its new structure yet. My tip was particularly swollen because a lot of work had been done in this area plus I had an open rhinoplasty. But luckily it all went down very quickly as I have a very thin skin. Everything I was complaining in my older post went away : the tip dropped as the swelling went down and the bridge became slimmer. If you have a thick skin, swelling can take a long time to go down. But please don't worry yet, it is way too soon to judge the final result.
During the first week after the cast removal, my nose looked nothing like it looks now. I was so worried and depressed at first but in the end I love my new nose! Just be patient..
You're welcome! From what you said a lot of work has been done to the bridge of your nose so there must be a lot of swelling in this area and it might take several months to go down. Trust your surgeon, if he said he lowered your nose, he certainly did! I totally understand your concerns but what I have learned from all this is that swelling hides the results and gives a distorted appearance to the nose. I recommend taking arnica montana to help with the swelling.
Don't worry for now, your nose will change as the swelling go down and hopefully you will find it more and more beautiful.

Thanks! Do you take arnica in the form of pills or just apply it to the skin? Is there a way to post photos on this forum, I just took one and need advice on the before and after... i know some of it is swelling but can it really go down THAT much to create another shape? The shape should kind of be visible already?
I took arnica montana pills but I did also apply it in the form of oil and gently massage my nose, so you can try both.
I don't think you can post pictures on this site. From my experience, even if I got minimal swelling, my nose did change a lot from the cast removal to now. You can read my post above, I wrote it under the name of "pisspiggy" 2 months ago, I was so worried my nose would stay how it looked right after the cast removal. So yes, swelling can really distort the nose's appearance because my nose doesn't look piggy at all anymore.
How is your nose going on? Do you see little progress as the swelling decrease?
Yes I have been taping for the last 5 days and i do notice it is getting a bit better at the tip, the bridge is still high but if i press it there are still a couple of millimetres to the bone, so perhaps it will decrease!

I would recommend you to consult your surgeon. I too had such a bump when I got my rhinoplasty surgery ( from a Toronto based plastic surgery clinic. Then considerably I discussed with my surgeon and he gave me proper medication. Thankfully it was healed in a week. I would prefer for you the same as well.

I got my cast removed today and oh my god... I didn't know how to react. It looked better with the cast on. I have a wide nose and a deviated septum, it looks straight but the space between my eyes looks the same thickness as my tip!! My whole nose just looks like a blob, I'm so glad I found this page and others can relate because it was so shocking to see, I felt like I ruined my face. I'm going to continue to use the arnica cream for any bruising and put my cast on every night. My doctor said it would go down another 30% but I don't feel like that's enough .. I'm so worried/depressed
The pig-like appearance may not be permanent for you, but it was for me. Even after a year and three months of healing, I still had a snout and uneven nostrils. I finally had a revision Rhinoplasty yesterday, because I was fed up of having to take pictures from an angle. If three months in you still have a snout, consider revision Rhinoplasty. And don't get the revision from the doctor who fudged it up in the first place. I literally flew halfway across the world to get my revision done. Hope this helps.
