Why was I born with two different color eyelashes

I was born with blond eyelashes over my left eye and black eyelashes over my right eye. It is very noticable to me so I avoid mackup as this excentuates the fact that they don't match. I have met many people with different color eyes but never any one else with different color eyelashes. What is a good way to deal with this?

So glad to have stumbled across this, for years I thought I was the only one!  My eye doctor told me David Bowie has this same issue!  I am not bothered by it now but when I was a young girl it made me feel self-conscious.  We have our own unique little circle.  Has anyone tried Latisse?
Hey, I have a blonde eyebrow on my left and a black one on my right! The eye lashes are blonde on the left too, and i have a streak of blonde hair that curles around my eye. And my arm hair and a bit of my facial hair (italian...) are blonde on the left! I don't really hide it since it helps me stand out, and no one seems to notice it until i point it out.http://tinypic.com/r/qn07ep/7
Thanks for your reply. I looked at your "tiny pic" and its funny because your coloring (hair, eye, skin tone) is almost identical to mine when I was a young woman (natural color is now brown/gray (but it does not remain so...) It looks like you have hazel eyes and hair with a lot of red in it. My brother had darker, more brunette coloring when he was younger, now he is gray, but his hair, eyes and complexion were all much darker, I was always the pale one. Since menopause my facial hair is white on both sides, but yes, years ago, the few hairs to pluck on the dark eyelash side were dark and the others white/blond and could be left alone. Your eye makeup looks great (and you have large, pretty eyes) -- I've never been able to get the eyeliner on right like you have. I agree, no one notices unless it is pointed out. I'm not sure why it used to bother me so much, probably just a general lack of confidence, if I wouldn't have had that, I probably would have found something else to dislike about myself! There are few upsides to getting old, but at least self-acceptance is one of them. I look back now at pictures of myself when I was a young woman and wonder why I did not think of myself as a pretty girl. I think it is wonderful that you look at what really is such a tiny thing as something which makes you unique; this is as it should be. Thank again for taking the time to reply and share.
I just had a baby who has completely dark brown hair except the left side is blond including her eyebrow and eyelashes. It is the craziest thing to see on a baby. I thought maybe she had some crazy under the skin birthmark but that was just a guess. I think she looks cute! Her blond hair on the left of her head is starting to look reddish which is strange seeing how neither my husband or I have red hair.
Wow, I also have different colour eyelashes and eyebrows and I'm amazed it's so common! I'm 18 and my left side is black and the right side is blond, I used to get people coming up to me at school to look at it because it was weird but it never really bovered me because it's part of my identity. People don't notice it so much now because I wear mascara daily and in the past have had my lashes and brows dyed every 6 weeks which I recommend for anyone insecure about their differences but it's not the reason I did it. I recently disocovered the reason for our differences is called 'mosaic phenotype' where twins have joined after fertilation giving the separate genes. This makes sense for me because my left is dark and long-sighted like my mother and my right blonde and short-sighted like my father. Shame I hadn't stayed twins tho "/ . . . Oh and btw I read on a previous post about a non-tanning area, I also have one of those on my leg where it's always been paler and is the shape of a ducks foot but I've never thought of it as related to the eyebrow thing x  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use
ive done some reasearch and keep getting told im a chimera which is basically where in the womb ive absorbed my twin and carry some of the genetics, they dont know how common it is because most of the time there arent any external differences, heres a link if anyones interested - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_(genetics) im really not sure though, allthough it is fascinating stuff!
I was born with 2 completely different haircolors, my left side is dark blonde, and my right side is completely red. When i was born, my mum said you could see the difference like a line on my head. Also on my red (right) side, my eybrow and lashes are blonde, and all is dark on the left side. So i always have to make sure i put make-up on so it doesn't look  weird. I dye my hair now in the brown color, but the red always starts to come out again very quickly. I've never met anyone with the same condition, does anyone know if there is even a name for it?
Hey Everyone, I too have two different color eyebrows. My left eyebrow is brown and right eyebrow is blonde...seems like that's what I'm hearing most everyone's else is. I was born with both blonde and then when i was in 4th grade they changed. I also tan on my right side of my face and burn on the left. I have more freckles on the left also. I was never picked on as a kid. But as an adult I have gotten some really strange reason why people think they are different. I have two 1st cousins that are albino. I always figured that's the reason they are different. I have 3 children and my oldest is the only one so far that has traits of it. Her left arm pit hair is black and right blonde lol. We thought once she started shaving they would both be black but it has stayed the same. I am not ashamed of my difference, I like being unique. God made us this way for a reason. I have been asked many times why not dye it or cover it up. I did dye them once and it looked crazy to me. This is me, and I'm proud to be different:D
A lot of you sound like fun people :DI have what's known as Sectoral Heterochromia, and my eyelashes are two different colors.  I'd never given it a second thought to look up why my eyelashes are two different colors, I'd figured it had something to do with my eyes.  Guess not.My right eye is 1/4th blue, 3/4ths brown with  blonde eyelashes, and my left eye is completely brown (two different shades) with brown eyelashes.  When I was little I had blonde hair blue eyes, and it changed up to brown hair brown eyes except for that 4th & that eyelash.I read here that it's 'Incomplete Dominence', so if that's true, is it simply coincidence that both my eye & my eyelash are unique ?
Wow I was reading some of the comments here and i am so surprised that theres so many others like me. I have different color eye brows and eye lashes. blond on the right and Brown on the left. I dye my hair darker now but i still have the one spot that will not dye. I like being unique and thought it was kinda cool. But I'm kinda happy I'm not the only! So does anyone know why i was born like this? Its is genetic?
It's pretty cool that there are a few other ppl out there like me :) I also have blonde eye brow/lash on the left side and dark brown on the right, but my blonde brow has a few darker hairs thru it. It's not very often ppl actually notice mine tho. I used a pencil on it once and it just looked odd, so I embrace it. Do used mascara tho.
I have blonde eye lashes on my left side and very dark eye lashes on my right side.  I also have incredibly long eye lashes.
I too have the same issue, and I to have found that my eye sight in my left which is my blonde eyelash side is weaker, never thought of it being my color of lashes to cause it huh. And I also have the entire left side of my head is blonde and the right side is a mix of red and brown. Being in cosmetology school they just tell me it's a birthmark but I usually like to keep my hair dyed to cover that and wear mascara. Every time I get my hair or make up done they make a fit about it. It's crazy but nothing I can do about just thought I would throw in my sense to lol.
I know how you feel. I was born with a blond eyelash on my right eye and brown on the other. I thought I was the only person on earth with that but its good to know that im not a loner!
Me too, me too! I also have only beach blonde/pigmentless hair on my right arm and brown hair on my left arm. My left eyelashes are brown, and my right are blonde. I also have blond highlights/streaks on the right side of my hair. My mother is a red head and my dad had brown hair. I thought it might have something to do with the red head genes...To put another spin on this, I also have wandering/lazy eyes, more so my left than my right. I can control them though. I sometimes wear mascara and sometimes don't. I feel fine without it until I see a picture of myself also, and then go back to wearing it. It's sad that there are such strict beauty standards in our culture that critique asymmetry as if it were the work of the devil. I personally have a very unique, ecclectic/punky style that I feel matches my natural asymmetry, and choose to view it as a gift not a curse. But I am also not immune from feeling insecure about it, and for years growing up I always wore mascara. It's a real bonus that you can buy organic, vegan mascara that is chemical free these days, which makes me feel okay about it. However, I know that if my lashes were the same colour, I would never even think to wear mascara, so it does suck that I feel dependent on it sometimes to make me feel attractive.I wonder if it is something more difficult for women to deal with than it is for men (I imagine it would be) considering beauty standards for women versus men. I can't imagine men feel the need to wear mascara to cover it up.I think it would be a great idea for all of us to share pictures of our faces without mascara to get a perspective on others with this...anyone interested in doing this?email me at nasstasiay@gmail.com
