Red, itchy blotches on body after showering

As soon as I step out of the shower, all these little red bumps and blotches appear on by upper body, especially my upper chest. These bumps are really itchy and cover my arms, chest, and back. I have no idea what is causing this. I have tried switching different shampoos and body washes, thinking I can rule different things out. I have tried no scent shampoos and sensitive skin body wash. What is wrong with me??!!??!!

I have literally the same exact problem. Basically blotchy hives that form in the shower & remain thirty - forty minutes after I get out. It also occurs when I'm in my hot tub. I think, for me at least, it's just sensitive skin. It's been happening since I was twelve and hit puberty. I'm now twenty. I've switched shampoos, soap, laundry detergent etc. Still the same thing. They are pretty easy to ignore & not itch. I just hate showering with my boyfriend - it's embarrassing. %-)If anyone is aware of some sort of cream or lotion to make them disappear faster that would be so helpful.

I have had the same problem, switched to different type of soaps, shower temperature hot and cold and also tried filter shower, nothing made it go away.only thing i haven't really tried is the hydration theory, i don't tend to drink too much water... but is it really related?when ever i take a hot shower, i cool my self with a mini-fan, it relieves the itchy-ness somehow, if theres any proper solutions with 100% proven results, let me know =D
same thing happens to me its so annoying everytime i get out of a shower and also notice it happens when i suddenly get stressed out and my body temp rises... has anyone figured out what it actually is ive had it for nearly 3 years now
with so many people with the same problem. if it only happens when you shower or bathe then its going to be contact dermatitis with either the water or the soap product your using. and im going to take a wild stab and say that your not all using tha same soap. i can bet you my house that its the fluoride and chlorine in the water thats causing this.fluoride penetrates the skin and has a half life of 20years. fluoride causes eczema and skin problems and lots of other VERY, VERY serious problems. i cannot stress enough, please make your house a fluoride free home, use fluoride free toothpaste aswell.you can buy filters that last 12months that filter out most of the chemicals from the water. but you need to make sure it states the removal of the fluoride.pretty much all filters will filter out the chlorine.it amazes how governments and companies are getting away with putting this in our water when its actually classes as a poison and marked and packed in hazardous containers. and somehow with a magic wand it suddenly becomes a health product that provents tooth decay. the fact that the nazi`s used it in there prison camps to keep the people complicit should tell you one thing. its not good.and we are putting it in our childrens mouths.so my money is on the fluoride.
This is a fairly common condition called cholinergic urticaria. It is a reaction to the warmer temperature of the water. It is difficult to get rid of, but other than the annoyance is not dangerous. It generally gets better over time but can last decades.
Using cooler shower water may help. I don't understand why a shower filter would help but seems to be a popular opinion; possibly it just disperses the water stream so it causes less irritation/activation of mast cells in the skin. If so, adjusting the shower head stream to less of a jet should help just as much.
Some people find that an antihistamine such as loratadine (10mg tablet daily, now available OTC in US) decreases symptoms. Doxepin, a tricyclic antidepressant that also blocks histamine release, is effective but can cause side effects such as sedation, dry mouth and constipation; you need a Rx for this in US.
I also get these blotches; they are red, itchy, raised bumps that spread over my chest, neck, shoulders and upper arms. I live in England, so it's clearly not a reaction to warm weather! This usually only happens when I have had a shower, and I believe that it is due to the temperature of the water, as stated by someone earlier in this forum. I am at university in a different part of the country, and do not get the rash there... though I think that it may be because my housemates prefer cooler showers, and the temperature is, therefore, usually set to a lower temperature than our shower at home. That said, none of my family have this condition, so it clearly doesn't affect everyone. Perhaps it's because I stay in the shower for a long time? My surface body temperature is usually a lot lower than other people - I am cold almost all the time. Taking a shower or bath (in such warm water) is bliss for me, as it's pretty much the only time I'm warm! I don't know if this has anything to do with it, as nobody else has mentioned it, but I thought I might as well say :)I know that it is irritating, but perhaps this forum will give us all a better idea of what we're dealing with. Thank you all for your post so far, it's been really interesting to read, and very helpful. I'm glad I'm not the only one!
I have this same problem! After being in a hot shower for about 10mins they show up, little red marks, and I get itchy. They go away after being out for around an hour or so.I like out of town and my water comes from underground springs, so it's not like any chemicals are the problem.I have the same problem when using any show in any town or city too.
I have this problem also! I get red all over my torso and even onto my face. sometimes they look as bad as welts! i have done a bunch of research, i have found out i am allergic to water. there is really nothing that can be done. you can rub cortizone cream all over the affected areas but i dont like to use lotions. i have had this problem for about 5+ yrs or so. hope this helps :)
Its herpes and it appears after a shower or a bath due to the heat that brings out the blotches, don't worry herpes is not that bad and is very treatable.
I have the same problem. After contact with water some red areas appear on my skin, with sometimes somithing like a small bump in the middle, or like rashes. When I was trying to cure acne, my dermatologist gave me accutane. After a while I was not experiencing these red areas on my skin. But now that I have stopped the medication they came up again, but after 6 months or so. After a shower, after swimming, anywhere there is contact with water, they appear and they itch.My mother has it also, but my father and sister do not.
i have red spots on my hands that are ichy right now and i drink nothing but water and all the time! water doesnt cure everything and everyones body is different!
I have the same problem. I think it might be the pH of water.
