Red, itchy blotches on body after showering

As soon as I step out of the shower, all these little red bumps and blotches appear on by upper body, especially my upper chest. These bumps are really itchy and cover my arms, chest, and back. I have no idea what is causing this. I have tried switching different shampoos and body washes, thinking I can rule different things out. I have tried no scent shampoos and sensitive skin body wash. What is wrong with me??!!??!!

For those of you having this problem, ask your doctor about Tinea Versicolor. I was just diagnosed with this. It's a fungal skin infection. I've had it for years and finally quit complaining to the doctors about it because it never did me any good. Recently I went to a GI doctor and of all doctors, he took one look at me and said, "Tell your doctor you have tinea versicolor and need to be treated for it." And so, after 30 years, I was finally diagnosed by a Gastointestinal doctor.
Hi I'm a physician. I also suffer from the same problem. While this rash can be annoying, it is completely harmless. As the previous post describes, you can use an anti-histamine such as Benadryl. 25mg of Benadryl about half an hour before the shower should work in preventing the flare up of these bumps. Hope this helps!
This is waters fault. I had and still have this problem for 8 years now live in NYC and i'm 26. And you know what, it is not a surprise. Entire water supplies are poisoned with all those chemicals from all over the place. I guess guys like me have a very sensitive skin and we are good indication that there is really bad chemicals in water, and something has to be done, because if it effected us, that means it will be affecting other people too in very near future, because water becomes more and more polluted. Plus on top of that, govt putts all kinds of chemicals into water like florid and we have radiated entire planet with Fukushima accident. We living in such a polluted environment no shit young born babies are all sick and weak and all freaky looking.
It started when I took a bath in a river...
I had this exact same thing so I saw a dermatologist. It's hives. I now take Claritin in the morning and Robitessin at night and the problem is gone. It's more common in females because out bodies are programmed to fight off allergies (somehow related to hives according to the m.d.) because of the potential baby we could one day have living inside us. I'm not sure if it's temporary or not (forgot to ask) but this should help you out.
Hello there, Do the welts appear immediately when you get out of the shower, or after you dry off? If they appear after drying off, the culprit could be the laundry detergent used on the towel. Hot showers open your pores, and if you have a reaction to the residual detergent on the towel, it will cause problems. If this is the case, maybe try an experiment.... Get a towel from your auntie's house, then go home, shower, and use the towel. Maye worth a try?
It's not lice, it's not a parasite or an allergic reaction. I get dime size spots that appear on my chest and neck, and they disappear in less than an hour. It's a form of eczema, which is triggered by warm/hot water.
wow, when i found this topic i was like, oh yes heres 8 pages of it, there must be a good solution and I can't find any. this is really sad. I started having this about 4 months ago. I first scanned through my diet for any new addition and i thought it was lemons but it didnt help much. not only my body as my face started to have sensitive skin as well. (dont use to have it) tried everything external from changing foams to bed bugs hunting. if all else fail will resort to internal measures. anyone has luck solving theirs?
Well, it's definitely not body lice or a bed bug infestation if it is just appearing on your chest, back, and neck. It could be either a water-induced urticaria (sensitivities make symptoms different), or it could be a sensitivity to the additives in water (a shower filter, or antihistamine medication may stop this). The medication that has helped me is zyrtec, but I do not suggest becoming dependent on medications unless directed so by your dermatologist. My best advice is the check with a dermatologist, or try those two solutions.
I've had this my whole life. It's no big deal. It's just a reaction your skin is having to the hot water. I'm 22 years old now and though it can be annoying, it's not dangerous. Just plan to have a shower at night before going to bed or if you insist on taking it before going to work or starting your day, give yourself time for it to fade. This is not deadly, it's not harmful, unless you scratch too hard, and you'll be just fine. It's annoying but not too big of a deal. I take my showers at night and if I take a shower in the morning, I keep it cool. It's the hot water that does it, which is why hot tubs do it too.
I've been having this problem literally my whole life, and I can't find any way to stop it...it appears with both hot water and cold water, and I use mild shampoo and soap too, so I don't know how to help, sorry. It shouldn't be dangerous though, just really really annoying.
Ok everybody, here's the rundown... America has increasingly horrible water, it doesn't matter how many chemicals we put in it, it continues to worsen. Look up FRACK MINING. You will be absolutely amazed at the damage being done to the environment, and us. I started getting these hives about 6 years ago when I moved into a mobile home that was once close to a Hog Farm. The farm washed out all Hog waste into a nearby swamp. Animals began to die left and right after drinking water from the swamp. They tried and tried and tried to teach us in school about management of resources, but nobody ever came up with any true solutions. The truth is, there are just too many people, and too many people doing bad things around storm drains. Don't let anybody lie to you, the hives can be caused by parasites living in your body from drinking water, but more than likely, they are caused by the chemical being produced in all HotWater Heaters made after 2003. Once the chemical is made, it takes many years for it to disperse. Putting chlorine in it does not help. All of your water coming from the heater MUST BE FILTERED. I know where SKIN CANCER comes from.... do you? Don't let Government and Big Business LIE TO YOU. FIGHT FOR YOUR HEALTH!!!!
Hey everyone,I have had the same itchy red bumps and patches on my body after showering for years. But today I may have just found a solution!! It's not caused by hot water as I live in a third world country and have cold showers in well water pumped straight from the ground to my bathroom. I have stopped using soaps and other showering products as even the handmade organics would cause my skin to re-act. Today I complained of this problem to my friend who studied natural therapies in Japan. She says that the water here is very alkaline (just like tap water) and can have an irritating reaction to many peoples skin and hair. She suggested keeping a large plastic bin or bucket in the shower, filling it with water and adding lemon, lime, white vinegar or anything naturally acidic to balance the ph level. Leave the water for a couple of days then use a ladle to bath with. keep topping up the water and adding a little acidity and this should help immensely.I'm gonna try it out now, so I'll let you know how it goes.
I have found that I cannot use body washes.  I only use Dove soap,  and still itchy some.  I have a prescription for  xyzal.  It is helpful.
So it's been a week and I have NO red itchy blotches on my skin after showering. I now use a natural handmade coconut soap on my body and face and the 'lemon water' I mentioned above. I totally recommend you all try this it has really worked for me!!!
