Why was I born with two different color eyelashes

I was born with blond eyelashes over my left eye and black eyelashes over my right eye. It is very noticable to me so I avoid mackup as this excentuates the fact that they don't match. I have met many people with different color eyes but never any one else with different color eyelashes. What is a good way to deal with this?

I feel exactly the same way: I would not wear makeup if I didn't have this condition. My eyelashes and eyebrow changed from brown to white on my right side when I was in sixth grade. I'm self conscious about it sometimes but it does make me unique. So glad I found this site!
This is very funny. I too have this condition, but beeing born with it I'm so used to it that I never thought of googling it, until now. Lately I have been thinking more and more about what it is exactly. Now I've learnt it is genetic and that I'm not the only one. In fact we're a bunch! I have a left eye with black eyelashes and a right eye with blonde eyelashes. My eyebrows are pretty much similar and dark blonde/brown. My hair color is medium blond. My parents are both brown haired. I also have some sort of skin condition on the blonde eye side. This right side of my face get easily sunburned and have less freckles than the left side. So the skin has less pigment or so. But it's not completely white as for those with vitiligo. Since 8th grade I've always used black mascara to cover the blonde eye, as I was not comfortable looking different from the other angle. Now I'm 27 and I'm old enough to don't care if to go out grocery shopping or jogging without mascara on. I still haven't not wore mascara to work, and I don't know if I will. It's not that I'm embarrassed but I just don't feel well, maybe it's because I'm so used to wearing mascara around people. Well, anyway, I'm glad I found this thread, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one. I'll try to share a picture.
My brother has different color eyelashes. I'm hoping he thinks it's "cool" when he gets big and he is always happy.
Yes, please everyone share a picture! I will upload one today! If I do, hopefully everyone else will too.
Alright, so here are some pics of me. I am going to find some better ones that show my eyes more clearly, but these are the best ones I could find so far. In some you can hardly tell, and in others its much more evident depending on the light, angle, and film etc. I also have a crooked nose, so I feel that accentuates my assymetrical lashes even more! please share pics everyone! ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use in the first pic, I am the one wearing the purple sweater.
I never knew anyone else had this either. I have lighter brownish blond eyelashes on my left eye and very black eyelashes on my right eye. My hair was very black when I was younger and every once in a while someone would point out my difference. Some were mean about it. I do wear mascara to cover this up. I am surprised to see so many others have this too.
Interesting to see this many people with the same trait. I also have this, blonde eyelash/eyebrow on left side and brownish on right. My vision seems to be perfect but might go get it checked, just in case. I'm 23 and male and am very insecure about it. I dye my left eyebrow but ignore the eye lashes.  On the up side, I just started this 'peptide' called 'melanotan II'. It is commonly used for 'injection tan' or 'improving libido'. I was not interested in either of these common uses but the side effect of the darkening of ones hair. Right now my left eyebrow has just started to grow a little darker. The tan is a plus too.
This is Madison again! Wow... I'm 17 now, and about to graduate high school. It is crazy to see such an old post by me. My boyfriend brought it to my attention that over my blonde lashes, that eye brow has a lot of blonde in it. I still prefer to not wear mascara, but if I am going to get really dressed up, I do put it on, just because I like everything to be pulled together. I still haven't met anyone with these unique lashes, which I like, because I still enjoy being different. My vision is still perfect too, if anyone was wondering. Good luck to you all, with your special lashes
I'm a Teen with this and I don't like it. Actually I HATE it
I was born with eyelashes that are different colors. White on my Left and Black on my right. I'm a teenager now and i absolutely HATE it, other people think its cool but its actually not cause they don't have to live with the teasing, the staring and the underestimating in the things that i can do. When i was younger when we went out shopping or to tea i used to bury my face into either my mums shoulder or the back of my pram because of all the strangers that commented. It took a lot to gain my confidence.
its only eyelashes? its very rare that anyone comments on my eyelashes and when they did it was always about how interesting was and how unique it made me. i dont see how having different coloured lashes would make anyone underestimate your abilities but if it bothers you that much have them dyed?
Can't believe I've only just decided to google this and I'm 33 now, always wondered though, I'm glad I'm not alone! I have blonde eyelashes and eyebrow on my left side and brown on the right...I'm pale skinned and also only get freckles (and lots of them) on the right side of my face, the left cheek burns more I was pretty self-conscious of the blonde eyebrow as a teenager so always pencilled it in, but it became such a faff so stopped around 20 and not cared much since, I realised this is such a minor flaw and there are so many worse afflictions that people have to deal with in life. ...someone has to organise an annual convention for this someday how funny would that be, maybe there is one??...in the meantime I'm going to google 'codominance' and 'chimera'!
I have the same problem. I use clear mascara on my black eyelashes and black on my blond side. Usually, helps hide the difference.
Same here!! I've always thought I was weird and the only one, but obviously I'm not. I have bleach blonde eyelashes over my left eye and dark brown ones over my right eye. The blonde ones are really messy and thick, and recently a lot of them have been falling out. Making It even worse than it was before. My eyebrow is lighter in the blonde side as well. It really annoys me but I don't want to dye them so I just wear mascara. It's really difficult to get them even by using mascara, but otherwise I look like I have a lazy eye in photos, and I hate it. This makes me really self conscious, but it makes it a lot better to know that there are actually other people like me!!!! :D and I'm really glad that I decided to search this :)
I had no idea there were so many of us!  I'm a 52-year-old woman who has dark brown eyebrow and lashes on the left and white eyebrow and lashes on the left.  In addition, I have a wide streak of white-blonde hair in the center of my scalp and at the nape of my neck -- the rest of my hair is brown.  I was teased about my coloring when I was a teen, but from my late-20s on (when most people regain their sanity) some people began to think it's cool and the rest just don't care.
