Berry lips
Berry lips are big news this season and the reason why we love them is that you can choose a berry hue that perfectly suits you. Choose a strawberry red lippy for a lovely take on the red lip trend, or a just-bitten blackberry or blackcurrant for an edgier look. The best way to embrace the trend is with a lip stain, as the whole idea behind the berry lip is for it look like you've been chomping on berries all day - so just dab the stain onto the lips, concentrating it towards the middle of lips and towards the center.

Orange lippy
An edgy look for 2014 is the orange lip. It's actually much more versatile than you might think and it's actually really wearable. Orange lippy is the perfect way to set off a suntan, so pack one into your holiday suitcase. If you think bright orange is too much for you, try a coral/orange hue instead - it's a little bit more wearable and a little more natural. You could also choose to apply it in the form of a lipstain, rather than a lipstick, to make it a little more wearable. Alternatively, try a dark orangey red hue instead.

True blue eyeshadow
Typically associated with the over-the-top makeup trends of the 1980s, blue eyeshadow has fallen out of favor a little bit in recent years. In 2014, it's back with a bang and in a whole new way. Look for turquoisey blues and pair them with natural brown and beige hues - perfect for the beach. Deep, navy blue is also lovely. Either layer blue eyeshadows up for a smoky eye or dip a damp liner brush into a pot of eyeshadow, then draw it across the top of the lids for an intense cat's eye look.

Cat's eye liquid eyeliner
Cat's eye liquid eyeliner has been popular for years and years and was seen everywhere on the SS14 catwalks. For a classic cat's eye, starting at the inner corner of the lash line, draw a series of tiny dots using the liner until you reach the outer corner of the eye. Go over the top with the liner, joining up the dots, then finish with a flick. You can also "suspend" the liner above the lash line by just a few mm, or if you like, try the double cat's eye - the classic cat's eye with a double line of liner a few mm above the first line.

White shadow and eyeliner
It sounds a little bit strange, but one of the most popular makeup looks for 2014 is for white shadow and eyeliner. A tiny bit of white eyeliner just drawn along your waterline can make your eyes look huge, while a sweep of white eyeshadow across the eyelid and just underneath the lower lash line can give you an angelic look. Use it subtly, however - too much and the overall look will just be a little bit odd. Don't forget to use a brown or black mascara with your white shadow or liner - without it, your eyes will disappear into your face.

Golden lids
One of our favorite looks for 2014 is for golden, gilded lids. They look beautiful with a slight suntan and luckily, you can get the look with either a slightly shimmery cream eyeshadow or with powder shadows. Either dab the eyeshadow onto the lid with a sweep of your fingertip, or, get out your eyeshadow brushes and create a smoky eye. Use a beige hue as a base, then brush the gold shadow over the lids and into the eye socket, followed by a slightly darker eyeshadow brushed along the lash line.

Glowing skin
Glowing skin is a lovely trend for 2014 but you have to get it right - too much "glow" and your skin will just look greasy rather than glowy. Make sure you moisturize twice a day, morning and night. For your makeup, apply a slightly shimmering highlighter along the top of cheekbones, on brow bones, on your cupid's bow and down your nose - any light will catch the highlighter on your face, making your skin glow. Some people also use a tiny drop of face oil just rubbed between their fingertips, which is great if you have dry/normal skin - those with oily skin shouldn't use face oil as it'll just make their skin greasier.

Au naturel
The "au naturel" look (all natural) is really big news for 2014. As seen all over the catwalks, getting the look is surprisingly easy. You'll need glowing skin, all-natural brows and pink, kissable lips. Use the merest hint of blusher - you want to look as though you've been outside in the fresh air, rather than like you've applied loads of blusher. Apply highlighter to cheekbones and browbones and make sure that your brows are well groomed - brush them upwards and set in place with a brow gel. Finally, add a slick of brown mascara and rub on a little nude lipstick.

Bonus: pastel nails
Get your nails in on the trend by painting them in pretty pastel hues. We love a full set of nails in a color like pale yellow, baby pink, lilac or sage green, but a lovely take on the trend is to paint each nail a different color. For this look, nails should be short and square - too long and pointy and you risk looking like a little girl playing with her mom's nail polishes. Matte nails are a big trend at the moment, so if you like, apply a matte top coat to lock the color in place.

Bonus: a pop of green shadow
Another fabulous trend for 2014 is for green eyeshadow. It's definitely not for the faint-hearted, but it can look super-elegant if you choose the right hue. A dark, forest green will typically be your best choice - it's flattering on all skin tones and will really make the color of your eyes pop - especially if you have brown eyes. Draw it on either using powder as an eyeliner (or by using a green eyeliner, if you can find one) along the top lash line, or sweep a shimmering green shadow over your lids for a pop of color. Use a cream shadow for the most flattering look, rather than a powder shadow.
