Red, itchy blotches on body after showering

As soon as I step out of the shower, all these little red bumps and blotches appear on by upper body, especially my upper chest. These bumps are really itchy and cover my arms, chest, and back. I have no idea what is causing this. I have tried switching different shampoos and body washes, thinking I can rule different things out. I have tried no scent shampoos and sensitive skin body wash. What is wrong with me??!!??!!

It's a skin condition called pityriasis rosea. I find it's only more common in the winter months when I am taking hotter showers.
Hi I just recently started college and noticed that I am having similar symptoms. After my showers or any contact with water I start to get these red bumps and marks all over my skin. It never happened before so at first I thought they were bed bugs..... Only thing was that it didn't itch and only appeared on my neck, back and stomach AFTER my showers not when I woke up. I have found it difficult to breathe in showers in the past and passed out in a shower twice about a year ago. I thought it was due to the heat but reading these comments I'm not so sure. Is it possible to sidedly become allergic to whatever is in the water but not have it be itchy?

All i do afterwards is moisturise and that helps with the itchiness but thats all. Doctors arnt sure why this is happening. I think it mighte dust mites as water sets it off...
Hi all. I've suffered with this same problem for years, been doing some research the last few weeks which is what brought me to this page. After I saw this thread I found a website detailing Physical Urticarias (Hives). Search it, it matches most of your symptoms (and mine) exactly! Antihistamines seem to be working for me :D so happy to finally have an explanation. Hope this helps you all. Good luck!

It's a fungal disorder. I'm not quite sure the proper name for it but I went to a dermatologist and she told me to try selsun blue .Don't use it on whole body just on small areas.
The proper name for the fungal infection is tinea versicolor. I didn't have insurance so the dermatologist suggested selsun blue as a cheap easy fix. It's the selenium sulfide in the shampoo that helps clear up the infection.. after the red blotchiness stop appearing after showers your skin stays discolored white for a short time after. Although it takes care of the infection due to my sensitive skin I get it back almost every other year if not every year. It seems winter time is when it is when it starts due to the fact that I wear long johns tight clothes and then when I sweat seems to have some sort of effect on my skin. If you have insurance you can just go get a pill and take care of it. Its the same medication that takes care of a toenail fungus I believe it's called lamisil.
Not to mislead or confuse the hypochondriacs out there. I was suffering from red blotchy itchy skin whenever I would work really hard and sweat a lot. And then after I get out of shower I would also have the red blotchy itchy skin. It was a combination of the two that led to my diagnosis of tenia versicolor. So please don't just start washing yourself a selsun blue because you have the water too hot in the shower and it irritates your skin. But I guess there's no harm in trying since there was no side effects. It just tingles a little and I found the order to be a little bothersome after a while. So I guess after all these post since I was pretty bored to write about this if you think you have tinea versicolor to try selsun blue.
I drink plenty of water, and I still get these splotches, now what?
That's interesting I get eczema on my hands too. I found out it's from dairy but I still can't figure out these hives on my stomach after I shower. Sounds like we have similar issues

Hello. No worries! Try over the counter Allegra and a Sprite shower head that is compatible with Sprite filters. Those two should do it. The filter lasts about 60 showers.
Try this: shower using Dove liquid winter skin soap.
After showering pat dry. Mix, in equal parts, hydrocortisone cream, CVS eczema cream, and A and D cream. Apply generously to all spots and do not try to make it disappear before dressing. It will wash out of your clothing. Should notice a difference after 4 or 5 treatments, but it will take a while.
